Visual Distortions
after brain surgery, with Post Concussion Syndrome
I realized my vision was not typical during art therapy at my favorite brain rehab clinic. The exercise was to focus on circles and what we see inside them. I imagined the peephole in my front door and the curved sidewalk on the other side. I was being my usual literal self and instead of drawing a single circle and the partial image of a sidewalk, I drew what I see inside the circle. Not what I knew was there, but what I actually see. I was surprised no one understood the image because I assumed it was what everyone saw. I decided to draw more of what I actually saw.
